Summary:
Although the population has declined in recent decades the House Sparrow is still a very common small bird. It has a brown back and wings, streaked with black, and a white wing bar. The underparts are light in colour and the legs pink and short. On the male cap is grey and face is black at the front extending into a large black bib below it. On the female the face is alight colour with yellowish bill and stripe above the eye.
Ecology:
The House Sparrow feeds on insects and seeds, and forms large feeding flocks in early autumn. It nests in small confined spaces in trees and bushes.

Grassland, heath, marsh

Throughout the British Isles except the Scottish Highlands
